NANAKULI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Work continues overnight on a fixing a water main ruptured Tuesday morning on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli . Traffic was bumper-to-bumper most of Tuesday afternoon and evening. Residents along the Leeward coast have also been asked to conserve water.

Traffic on Farrington Highway is being contra-flowed between Nanakuli Avenue and Haleakala Avenue.

A private contractor working on the 24-inch main accidentally damaged it around 10:30 Tuesday morning. The main supplies 60% of the water supply to the Leeward Coast, so the Board of Water Supply (BWS) is asking families from Honokai Hale to Makaha to conserve water until repairs are done.

Water should be used for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene only. Residents should refrain from laundry, watering lawns, washing cars and other non-essential water activities at this time. It is unknown how long conservation will be needed so residents should conserve water until notified otherwise from the BWS.
