HANA, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui fire officials have announced that they have called off the search for missing Hana residents Carl and Rae Lindquist. The effort to find the couple was ended at 10:30 AM Monday, officials say.

Although the county's search and rescue efforts have ended, a community effort to continue the search is still underway. For information and to offer assistance, members of the public can call Dawn Lono at 248-7723. A missing persons case will remain under investigation by the Maui police.
Fire crews had been searching for the Lindquists since Saturday morning. The couple, both of whom are 75 years old, were last seen having dinner at Hotel Hana Maui at about 9:30 Thanksgiving night. Their SUV was later found in a streambed about half a mile from Ulaino Road, the street where they live.

Police believe the vehicle was swept into the stream bed by heavy rains.
