Jurors deliberated for just four hours before finding Joel Allen, 65, guilty of murder. He now faces life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors say Allen used a pocket knife to fatally stab Jason Namauu, 35, who also went by the names "Jayleen" and "Lynette." Witnesses testified the two were in a relationship.
"We had three members of the community who were really Good Samaritans in the Biblical sense. They came forward. They went in harm's way," Darrell Wong, deputy prosecutor, said.
"They did as much as they could to stop what was going on. They went through the process of making statements and coming to the court."
The stabbing happened inside a car parked at Cartwright Field in Makiki last year. The defendant testified Namauu attacked him when he refused to give Namauu money for drugs.
