No tsunami threat for Hawaii after Tonga quake

TONGA (HawaiiNewsNow) - An earthquake rattled Tonga shortly before 3:00 a.m. Hawaii time on Tuesday. The 6.8-magnitude quake was centered in the ocean off the island nation at a depth of about 38 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Panicked residents in the capital of Nukualofa ran into the streets, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. No tsunami was reported.
