HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) announced Thursday that the state's film office will remain intact despite layoffs. Two people in the office are being laid off with a third layoff to follow in a few weeks. Two of the office's five employees will remain.
"It is important to emphasize the Hawaii Film Office remains open for business and we pledge to provide the professional, timely responses and production support expected by our film industry as well as Hawaii's creative sectors-at-large" said Georja Skinner, the offices administrator.
In 2008, $146 million was spent by television and film productions here in the islands.
