HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 2009 class for the UH football team has even more to play for these days. Twenty-five Warriors took part in an impromptu senior photo on Wednesday. But what would really be picture perfect for them would be a Hawaii Bowl berth. Plus the idea of suiting up against SMU and former UH coach June Jones is adding extra motivation.
"We all heard the news that coach Jones might be coming to town. I'm a senior and all the seniors feel the same way, we would love to end the season playing coach Jones. The person that brought us in here. We can leave by getting our last punches in, so it would be awesome," said linebacker Blaze Soares.
"We're happy for him but we're taking one game at a time. Eventually if we win out and they're there, we'll worry about coach Jones and his crew. But it's nice to hear they're bowl eligible but right now we need to worry about San Jose State," said running back Leon Wright Jackson.
The Warriors need to win their last 3 games to go bowling. Hawaii plays the Spartans on Saturday.
As for SMU, Jones team still has two games left this season but it's 6-4 record is good enough to receive an invitation to the Hawaii Bowl in December. It marks the Mustangs first bowl appearance since 1984.
