Restaurant Week: d.k. Steakhouse, Sansei Seafood Restaurant

Chef and restaurateur D.K. Kodama is an expert in surf and turf. Two of his restaurants, d.k. Steakhouse and Sansei Seafood Restaurant, sit side-by-side in the Marriott Waikiki. If you're in the steakhouse, go for the Maui Cattle Company rib-eye. The all natural cuts are seared to perfection in an 1800-degree broiler. Check out those flames!

"We like to buy local so we can serve people local, support local community," Kodama says.

It's served with au poive sauce, herb roasted fingerling potatoes and grilled Maui onions. "Not only are flavors fresh, it's great, but it's supporting our local economy as well," Kodama says.

The roasted Tuscan style chicken is just as juicy, filled with pancetta, garlic, rosemary and thyme.

If sushi and seafood is what you crave, Sansei offers omakase for two. "What we're trying to do now is try to get all that fresh fish, cook it and serve it with perfect sauce and accompaniment that enhance the flavors."

Start with a spicy crab and cilantro roll and poke sampler, and moi sou vide, with rock shrimp, sea asparagus and cilantro pesto rice. "You take it out and it just stays moist. The flavors are just in tact."

The menu also features fork-tender braised short ribs with shiitake mashed potatoes and warm apple tart with homemade caramel sauce.

The most difficult choice? Deciding which restaurant to go to!

"If they walk out the door and say man that was great and I can recommend it, I'm happy."
