DBEDT releases latest state economic forecast

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you've been waiting for a rapid rebound in jobs and income, state economists say don't count on it.

Instead, the latest DBEDT report says Hawaii's personal income average is still shrinking, along with the job count and the state's gross domestic product.

The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism revised the forecast downward in response to the recession and our low visitor numbers. The report says the economy will improve, but slowly over the next two years.

It predicts a recovery by 2011, barring unforeseen downturns in the national economy.
