Red Cross assisting victims of house fire in Kona

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – Big Island Red Cross officials are assisting two Kona residents with food, shelter and clothing after an early morning fire destroyed their Alii Kai home.

At around 4:00 AM Tuesday, firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire on Plumeria Drive. They found the 800-square-foot home fully engulfed in flames. It took crews over 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

One of the home's occupants, Robert Farnham, complained of smoke inhalation and was treated with oxygen at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

No neighboring structures were damaged. Fire officials estimate the damage at $140,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
