HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With more and more on the line for the Warriors, this week coach Greg McMackin says practices on Wednesday and Thursday are closed to the public and open only for the media. Coach Mack knows Dick Tomey has a lot of friends in the islands and there's even more reason to help the former UH head coach.

Today Tomey officially announced he will retire after the 2009 season with the Spartans. He steps away after being a head coach for 29 years.

"I think he's one of the best coaches in the country, I always have. I've been playing him a long time ever since he was here and I was at Idaho. And then I coached with him with the 49ers. So I have the utmost respect, but I know that little rascal is retiring a week early because we're playing him. He's playing Hawaii; he really wants to beat Hawaii. And I know cause my players are calling me, Jack Overstreet, they're having every football letterman come back for this," said McMackin.
