State asking tourism authority to help pay for sand reclamation

Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - Waikiki beach needs more sand and the state's hoping the tourism authority will help pay for it. There's a plan to pump sand from a spot offshore to the beach from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel to the Duke Kahanamoku statue.

The cost of the restoration project? Between two and three million dollars.

The state's asking the tourism authority to fund about one million of it.

No decision's been made.
