Severe weather around the islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Kauai, the rain and runoff left behind a mess for county crews along Kahuna Road in Kapaa. The rushing water  swept up lots of debris. Water department workers spent the morning trying to repair pipes and restore service.

Over on the Big Island, the whipping wind tore off part of Kai Store in Hilo. The awning is falling apart and the business is now taped off.

The heavy showers also flooded the parking lot of the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium and the parking area for the soccer field along the Hilo bayfront looks like a lake.

Up at Mauna Kea,  this time lapse video shows the wet weather and cloudy conditions at the summit

On Oahu's windward side, cars carefully made their way through all the water on Kamehameha Highway. The rain caused this stream to swell in Waikane Valley and some of the floodwater spilled into backyards.
