Hawaiian celebrates 80 years of service in the islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Passengers on Hawaiian Airlines received a special greeting for a special day.

Wednesday, everyone who arrived on a Hawaiian plane was greeted with lei, in honor of the company's 80th anniversary.

On Nov. 11, 1929, Inter-island Airways launched the first ever inter-island flight.
A propeller plane carrying eight passengers and two crew members flew more than three hours from Honolulu to Maui, then Hilo.
Wednesday wraps up a year-long celebration that included the unveiling of new uniforms and the return of one of the original models of airplanes.
