NEW YORK (HawaiiNewsNow) - Shane Victorino has the respect of Major League Baseball again. The Maui boy's been voted a National League Gold Glove winner for 2009 by the managers and coaches. It's the second straight year Victorino's been noticed for his fielding performance.
It's quite a feat for the St Anthony grad who is the first Phillie outfielder to receive back to back Gold Gloves since Garry Maddox won eight straight from 1975 to 1982. Victorino ended the year ranked second for NL outfielders with a .997 fielding percentage with just one error. The Phillies ended the season losing the World Series to the Yankees 4 games to 2.
The news of his latest award comes days before Victorino is set to marry Melissa Smith on Maui. Smith is the mother of his 2 1/2 year old daughter.
