Strong winds hitting Kauai and Niihau

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A wind advisory remains in effect for Niihau, the windward and leeward slopes of Kauai and the mountain areas.
Wednesday morning wind gusts were recorded at 38 miles per hour at Barking Sands, with sustained wind over 30mph.  No damage has been reported.

Wind gust reports from our Neighborhood SchoolNet observing stations on Kauai Wednesday morning:

Koloa Elementary School: 40 mph
Hanalei High School: 30 mph
St. Catherine’s School in Kapaa: 33 mph
Chiefess Kamakahelei MS in Lihue: 33 mph

A high wind watch is also in effect for the Big Island summits, where west to southwest winds are expected to increase Wednesday and Thursday with gusts possibly reaching as high as 50 mph.
