HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people accused of injuring police officers while trying to flee a KFC Restaurant in a stolen SUV appeared before an Oahu judge Monday. Family and friends of the suspects were in the courtroom for their brief appearances.

Jeremiah Lopez III is charged with about a dozen counts, including assault on an officer, auto theft, criminal property damage and drug offenses.

Hawaii News Now got exclusive video of police escorting the 23-year-old into their main cellblock, after he was released from the hospital Friday. Officers say they shot Lopez three times when he tried to ram his way out of the Waikele KFC drive-thru in a stolen Dodge Durango last Tuesday.

Cherish Craig, 25, was Lopez's front-seat passenger. She is charged with assault on an officer and unauthorized entry into a vehicle.

Each suspect has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday.
