Brush fire burns in Waianae

WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Fire Department crews battled a brush fire in leeward Oahu for most of Saturday afternoon.

It began on Pahe'ehe'e Ridge just before 12:30.

At the peak of the fire, 6 engines, 2 ladders, and two tankers were on scene trying to put out the flames.

Air News Now was above all the action, as crews tried to get a handle on the situation from both sides of the ridge.

A fire department spokesperson says the fire has since been contained, but not before scorching three acres of land.

Residents who live in the area were seen watering their yards as the fire came dangerously close to their homes.

"We were cleaning up inside and looked out the window and the fire was about 70 x 70 and the flames were shooting as high as 30 feet in the air", said one witness.

So far it is not known what started the blaze.

No one was injured in the incident.
