HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 79-year-old woman who was struck by a car on South King Street in Moiliili Tuesday morning has died.

The accident happened near the recently closed Moilili Star Market at around 10:45 AM Tuesday morning. The woman was apparently dragged 30 feet before the vehicle came to a stop. She was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

"She was definitely injured, she had pooling blood in her ears and what looked like a fractured hip," said witness Thomas Gaupp. "It wasn't a good scene."

"Looking at the damage of the vehicle and the roadway evidence, it doesn't appear that speed was a factor in this case," said Sgt. Darren Izumo, Honolulu Police Department.

The driver of the car, a brown Ford Taurus, was identified as a 64-year-old woman. Alcohol also does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver was not arrested, but police have opened up a negligent injury case.

Officials have so far not identified the woman.
