WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new two hour HBO documentary titled "By The people: The Election of Barack Obama" was shown Thursday night at the Waikiki Shell.

It was a free screening sponsored by HBO, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, and the City and County of Honolulu.

While hundreds, perhaps as many as a thousand, people attended the free show, there was room for thousands more. People who did show up told Hawaii News Now they came to get an inside look at Obama's presidential campaign.

"I wanted to see the story of how their campaign grew and what the family went through and then the climax ... getting elected president and going to the White House," said Art Hori of Pauoa Valley.

"I'm not sure if I'm really expecting anything. I'm just hoping I'm inspired how I was during the campaign race," said Justin Powers of Honolulu.

"Well, I love Obama and I wanted to see the details of how he was elected" said Pat Masters of Manoa.

The documentary covers a 19 month period beginning almost a year before Obama decided to seek the presidency and culminating with his victory in the General Election.

The documentary will debut on HBO Tuesday, November 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It will air 11 times over the next several weeks.
