Good Things: Rare coral, Christmas lights, Sunny's birthday

HONOLULU (HAWAIINEWSNOW) - Twenty coral fragments from the Papahanaumokuakea Marine Monument are being nurtured in a special holding tank at the Waikiki Aquarium. Propagating the rare coral in captivity could someday save these five species. If they vanish from the wild, scientists could take coral from the exhibit and re-introduce them to their natural habitat.

Let the shopping season begin! Halloween is still a couple days away, but in Chicago, the christmas decorations are going up. City crews started hanging the lights on Wednesday. It's part of a plan with the area's shopping district to keep christmas and gift buying on the brain.

And it's Sunny's birthday! Hawaiinewsnow's Sunrise mascot turns two years old on Thursday. That's 14 in dog years. She's now officially a teenager! Here are some pictures of her over the years. And we've got a special surprise for her at the end of the show.
