Fatal motorcycle crash on Kaukonahua Road

Lt. Darren Izumo Lt. Darren Izumo
WAIALUA (KHNL) - A dangerous Central Oahu roadway claimed the life of yet another motorcyclist.

Around 1:00 PM Sunday, emergency crews rushed to Kaukonahua Road where a motorcyclist apparently lost control and collided with a rental car.

Police say a 29-year old man was traveling with a group of motorcyclists at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police know this stretch of roadway well because of the number of motorists they see speeding here.

"The speed limit here is 25, if you ride at 25, thereabouts, it's a safe roadway, it's a good drive, very safe. Anytime you push that you're pushing the limits of what the service of the roadway is designed for", said Lt. Darren Izumo of the Honolulu Police Department.

The four people in the rental car were not hurt.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

Speed, alcohol, and drugs were not involved.
