HONOLULU (KHNL) - A Family Court jury on Tuesday found a couple, accused of nearly starving their child to death, guilty of attempted murder.

Melvin and Denise Wright now face life in prison with the possibility of parole. Sentencing is set for December 23rd.

The defendants argued they did the best they could to provide for their daughter, Indigo. Denise Wright's attorney says she will appeal.

Paramedics found the 12-year-old girl emaciated and near death in her Kinau Street apartment in January 2007. Prosecutors say she weighed about 29 lbs., the healthy weight of a two-and-a-half-year-old.

Indigo is now living with her grandparents on the mainland. Prosecutors say the now 15-year-old has neurological problems and is performing at a third-grade level.
