HONOLULU (KHNL) - The fate of a couple, accused of nearly starving their child to death, is now in the hands of an Oahu jury.

Melvin and Denise Wright are charged with attempted murder. They say they did the best they could to provide for their daughter, Indigo.

Paramedics found the then-12-year-old girl emaciated and near death in her Kinau Street apartment in January 2007. Prosecutors say she weighed about 29 lbs., the healthy weight of a two-and-a-half-year-old.

Indigo is now living with her grandparents on the mainland.

If convicted, her parents face life in prison with the possibility of parole.
