So here we go- the beginning of the 100th season of University of Hawaii football Friday night. What will this season bring? A favorable home schedule, a reasonable non-conference schedule, a solid nucleus of offensive returnees- it all bodes well on paper. But that's the beauty of sports. Pundits and amateur experts toss around theories and hopes and predictions and inside bits of data, and then the big guys get out there and smash about for three hours of so each week to determine the outcome.
Now that's reality TV- it's not contrived, it's not pre-ordained, it's not Hollywood-ed up for the cameras like most of that so-called reality stuff- it really unfolds right before our eyes. A good start in the first few games, including two on the road, will undoubtedly set the tone for this 100th version of University of Hawaii football. With some new food concessions at the Stadium and easier access parking, this might be a great time for you to check it out or return to the games. If you can't get out, then relax and enjoy the games on pay-per-view or delayed on K5 The Home Team.
But as everyone deals with the economy and traffic and the pitfalls of daily life, local college football, as well as other live sporting events, provide much needed respite for many of our local residents. And that's a good thing. Here's to a great season of Warrior football, one not simply measured in wins and losses. Think about it...
