KALIHI (KHNL) - A Kalihi resident working in her backyard made a disturbing discovery outside her fence -- the nude body of a young woman. Police are now trying to solve the mystery of how she ended up there.
Between the Kamehameha Homes housing project and the homes on Winant Street, there is an alley that's just a few feet wide. That's where the body was found.
Luzviminda Caoili has been living on Winant Street for 30 years. She's shaken up after her neighbor stumbled across a young woman's body in an alley behind their homes Monday morning.
"Face down and then naked. Naked, you know, and then the hands are like that. It's not tied down, anyway, and the hair was like that," Caoili described.
Officers seal off the area, as homicide investigators conduct interviews and gather evidence.
Family and friends identify the woman as Iris Kaikana-Rodrigues, a 2008 McKinley High School graduate. Police say the 18-year-old was staying with a relative at the housing project.
"We'll have to determine if, in fact, the victim died in that alley or she may have died somewhere else," Maj. Clayton Kau, Honolulu Police Department, said.
Neighbors reported hearing a commotion in the area between 9 and 11 Sunday night.
"We're not too specific it was screaming or there was any kind of struggle, if it was a male or female voice that might have been heard," Kau said.
Police are asking for more witnesses to come forward.
"Scary, very scary," Caoili said. "This is the first time happened."
