HONOLULU (KHNL) - A teenage girl is in the hospital Sunday night after sustaining injuries from a fall at a spot known as "Ice Pond" off the Likelike Highway.

Fire rescue crews got the call just before 4:30.

When they got to the girl, she was treated for her injuries and then airlifted out by the Honolulu Fire Department's helicopter.

She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Her friends say she was on a rope swing when she let go too early.

"She tumbled down the hill and when she came out of the water, she was on her back and there was blood everywhere. She said like she couldn't feel her body and she was pretty messed up and the helicopter came down and picked her and lifted her up", said Angelino Piro and Taylor Dewey.

Traffic in both directions of the highway was shut down briefly as the fire helicopter brought the girl out.
