MANOA (KHNL) - He's a fifth year senior, he's the leader on defense, but now Warrior middle linebacker Brashton Satele is on the injured list. Satele hurt his left shoulder on Saturday attempting to make a tackle. Some of his teammates say it keeps popping in and out, and that he might have torn it.
During today's practice, Satele was absent and junior linebackers Mana Lolotai and Jake Heun participated in his spot. Head coach Greg McMackin is hoping for the best for bBashton, but he realizes injury is part of the game and the next guy in line needs to be ready.
"Unfortunately it's football, and the next guy will move up and Mana and Jake will be battling for that spot," said McMackin.
"Brashton is our leader, he's been working hard this summer and just me and Jake just gotta know our plays and push hard," Lolotai.
"It's a pretty big hit, not so much as the loss of Brashton as a guy on the field, but he's the leader of our room. Middle linebacker controls what goes on but at the end of the day we gotta tough room of guys, there's not really a dropoff behind it's just going to mean Mana and I are going to have to step up and take over for what Brashton did on the field," said Heun.
Satele and his family was scheduled to meet with a surgeon Monday evening, no word on the results of that appointment. He injured the same shoulder last year, but opted to forgo an operation.
