HONOLULU (KHNL) - A man accused of forcing women into the sex trade appeared before an Oahu judge Monday.

Charles Cocklin, 28, is charged with promoting prostitution, kidnapping, terroristic threatening, assault and extortion.

Investigators say he met a 26-year-old woman through a social networking site, forced her to work as a prostitute in Waikiki, and beat her. A 30-year-old woman told police Cocklin also tried to recruit her, then repeatedly threatened her when she refused.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Wednesday. Bail is set at $250,000.
