HONOLULU (KHNL) - First it was President Obama.

Then, Major League Baseball player Shane Victorino.

Now, Hawaii can help another person from the islands, gain a national award: teenage pro surfer, Carissa Moore.

It's the place where she feels the most comfortable. You can find her in the water twice a day, enjoying the feeling she says, is indescribable.

"When you stand up on a wave and just looking down the line and thinking about what you're gonna do, you get real excited," she said.

At the age of 16, Carissa is already making her mark in the surfing world. She recently signed sponsorships with Target, Red Bull and Nike 6.0.

"I definitely feel lucky about the opportunities I've been given," she said.

She's been nominated for a Teen Choice Award in the "action sports category." It's an awards show that will be nationally televised next month.

"I don't know if I belong there but it's pretty cool, and I'm super stoked and it's cool to be kinda recognized like that," she said.

She's been recognized a lot lately, tied for first place in the Women's World Qualifying Series. Carissa's traveling across the globe to compete, while gearing up for her senior year at Punahou. And Carissa is having a blast, riding out this wave, for as long as she can.

"My favorite part about surfing is just being with my family and just enjoying the water and you don't have to worry about anything when you're out there and it's just a lot of fun."

The Teen Choice Awards will be held on Aug. 10.

You can go to the Teen Choice Awards website link on this page to vote for Carissa.
