Man, 30, critical after pedestrian crash

LAIE (KHNL) - A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on the North Shore.

According to Honolulu police, it happened shortly after 8:30 Monday night on Kamehameha Highway near Kokololio Beach Park. They say, the pedestrian stepped onto the roadway in front of a vehicle when he was hit. He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with head wounds and internal bleeding.

The driver of the bleeding was not injured, but was arrested for negligent injury.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but speed may have been a factor. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
