Hawaii set for arrival of Japan's royal family

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Hawaii is getting ready for Tuesday's arrival of Japan's royal family. Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, will be in the islands until Thursday. Among other things, their itinerary includes, laying a wreath at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

The 75-year-old emperor and his 74-year-old wife, will also attend a banquet marking the 50th anniversary of a scholarship set up in his honor, the Crown Prince Akihito scholarship foundation.

Their majesties arrive Tuesday at Hickam Air Force Base around 3pm then, they'll head to Kapiolani park for a public ceremony. Honolulu Police warn traffic, could be affected during their visit.
