HONOLULU (KHNL)- From Motown to Main Street America homes, Michael Jackson's loss is mourned by millions. He was an icon that impacted the music scene across the globe including here in the islands.

Music, T-shirts and memorabilia at Magic Island Thursday night. Some sat somberly, but all mourned "MJ."

"I grew up listening to him, I used to do all the dances, sing all the songs," said Fan Doc Rock.

But Hawaii's love for the maker of the "moon walk" started more than a decade ago when thousands endured downpour at Aloha Stadium to get their hands on the hottest ticket in town, Michael jackson's concert.

Tom Moffatt expected fans to show up, but nothing like that.

"I was outside and saw what was happening and said we need a second show here, they sold out by noon," said Concert Promoter Tom Moffatt.

A second show was added, that sold out too. It's the only time thats ever happened in Aloha Stadium history.

Jackson definitely delivered. Infants up to senior adults were in admiration.

"He was phenomenal on stage, he was performer, his movements, his singing, the whole production was wow-first class," said Moffatt.

But it was long after the "King of Pop's" last note did Hawaii's music scene really appreciate the artist.

"Michael Jackson opened the doors up," said Moffatt.

The success of the star's two concerts gave confidence to big names like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan who booked concerts here months later. Millions around the world will mourn Jackson's loss, and while he shined only two nights in the islands, the artist will always be remembered with aloha.

With news of Michael Jackson's comeback tour, Moffatt inquired about luring him back to Hawaii during a possible South East Asia swing.
