Wichmann in 8th after Day 1 of Heptathlon

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KHNL) - Rainbow Wahine heptathlete Annett Wichmann is off to a record setting start at the track and field national championships in Arkansas.

The senior from Germany finished day one with a school record 3,397 points, putting her in 8th place thus far.

Wichmann set two personal records in her first four disciplines.

She finished the 100 meter hurdles in 14.62 seconds, a personal best.

She also placed third in the high jump clearing 1.78 meters.

In her third event, she dominated the shot put winning it with a throw of almost 13.77meters, than she concluded her day with a personal best in the 200 meter dash, 26.28 seconds.

Her total score is already 95 points better than last year's performance, when she finished in 6th.
