HONOLULU (KHNL) - As many as six people were treated for minor injuries Tuesday, after flames erupted at a Downtown Honolulu high-rise.
Police have opened an attempted murder investigation.
Investigators believe a 37-year-old man deliberately set the fire by pouring gasoline onto the floor of an apartment and igniting it. It happened on the 26th floor at Kukui Tower at about 5:20 am.
Firefighters say the building's sprinkler system kept the flames confined to the one unit.
Investigators collected evidence, while the American Red Cross provided assistance to affected tenants.
Police say the suspect turned himself in at the main station, but was later taken to Straub Hospital to be treated for his burns.
