HONOLULU (KHNL) - He's one of the best in the nation at what he does, but prep linebacker VJ Fehoko, son of Vili The Warrior, is taking his talent north to Kahuku. The senior-to-be is transferring from Farrington, but his decision, has nothing to do with football.
The Fehoko family is moving to Kaawa to be closer to Vili's father who is seriously ill. VJ's grandfather raised him for part of his childhood while the rest of the family moved to Utah, and moving back to care for his grandpa was never a question.
"I never really looked at football in this decision, it was all family to me, football is really important but family is what persuaded my mind to go to Kahuku. The community is really close, so everybody is like aunties and uncles, so it's just like returning home you know," said Fehoko.
"It was a very important decision he had to make for himself, because he loves this program, we love this program, we respect it as much as any program, so it was very hard for him, but I know it was the right decision," said Vj's older brother Sam Fehoko.
VJ also says even though he's at a different school, his goals are the same, win a State title, go undefeated, and have his individual stats off the radar.
