Local Celebrity Lanai Debuts New Vintage

(KHNL) - Wine aficionados, a classic and sophisticated new wine is unveiled from former radio personality Grant "Lanai" Tabura. Lanai partnered with winemaker and local boy Mikael Sigouin to craft this special-occasion, red Grenache Shiraz blend. Playing off the wine's tongue-and-cheek name, Lanai named his wine in honor of Hawaii's Ali'i and the tradition of always looking guests in the eye when saying a toast.

Lanai and Sigouin, a Kaiser High School graduate now based in Santa Ynez, California, created this smooth, full-bodied red from grapes in the Santa Ynez region. Sigouin is the current winemaker for Beckman's vineyard and has his own award winning Kaena wines. His current wines Hapa Blanc, Hapa, and Teiralta Grenache were all highly rated by Wine Spectator and he was voted one of the top five new winemakers of 2008. Having grown up in the islands, Sigouin understands Hawaii's multi-cultural foods and knows how to make his wines match those flavors.

"Great new wine comes from the best grapes, the top locations and skilled winemakers, and that is the combination I have crafted with Lanai and ‘Look Me In the Eye,'" said Sigouin. He adds, "This wine can be paired with all your favorite foods for a savory meal or simply as a select cocktail."

Starting summer 2009, ‘Look Me In The Eye' will be featured at Stage, Amuse Wine Bar, Ruth Chris, Azure and the Pacific Club. The wine is not available for retail purchase at this time. Future plans for ‘Look Me In The Eye' include sales in Las Vegas and expanding the vintage over the next few years to include a Syrah and a white wine.
