HONOLULU (KHNL) - A Maui man, who's accused of flying to Oahu to have sex with a child, made his first court appearance in the case Tuesday.

Chris Mabe, 37, is charged with electronic enticement. His bail is set at $40,000.

He's accused of going on the Internet and having sexual conversations with an undercover officer, whom he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Investigators say Mabe arranged to meet the child at the Waikiki Aquarium, where officers arrested him Sunday.

"We just think that these people are a danger to the children of Hawaii because they're out there trying to solicit people whom they know or they believe are children, still they're very determined in trying to set up encounters with them for sexual purposes," Albert Cook, deputy attorney general, said.

A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday, unless a grand jury indicts Mabe before then.
