MANOA (KHNL) - Charlie Wade is back. The former University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine assistant volleyball coach from 1995-to-2005, is now the new Warrior volleyball coach.

UH athletic director, Jim Donovan made the announcement at a press conference Friday morning.

Wade spent the past 3 season as head women's volleyball coach at the University of Pacific.

Now he takes over a Warriors team that failed to make the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation playoffs for two straight years

"Our first challenge will be, you look at the number of players who are leaving Hawaii and are on teams that are dominating the league, so our first goal is to keep as many Hawaii players as we can home," said Wade.

"There's been a need to connect back to the community with men's volleyball. At one point you'd walk around the circle and the line was so long that you'd meet them again, and we just need that same time of enthusiasm, and of course you need to win but a lot of it is passion from the coach and a connection the community and I think Charlie is the right person to do that," said Donovan.

Former Warrior coach Mike Wilton retired after 17 years at the helm.
