KONA (KHNL) - In July, Hawaii will open the doors of its third TARGET Store, this time on the Big Island. A Job Fair on Thursday will give some Kona residents a chance to reach their target goal of landing a job this summer.

The 160,000 square foot Target store in Kona is where about three hundred people will call their place of employment.

"Timing wise with the economy the way it's been, this couldn't happen at a better time. We've had lots of inquiries, lots of applications online," said Roger Thomas of TARGET Stores.

If the Kona job fair is anything like Oahu's, be ready for an early morning.

Back in December, thousands showed up early at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, hoping for a job at one of two Oahu locations.

Applicants in Kona should be aware that punctuality will be key.

Some Kona residents and even merchants across from the new Target store are happy the retail giant will be coming to town.

"It's a good positive thing that its opening because it's offering 300 jobs that big island really needs," said Kona resident Cornelia Kuahiwinui.

"I'm glad there will be more jobs for people that are unemployed right now," said Kona merchant Brad Leslie.

Employers are advising those interested in joining the Target team to bring, more than just good references and a solid resume.

"Come with a smile. We're very anxious to meet and talk to lots of great candidates," said Roger Thomas.

For some of those who hit the bull's eye and get offered a position, work could start as early as the end of the month.

The four-day mass hiring event will start Thursday and run through Sunday. It will be at the Sheraton Keahou Bay Resort & Spa's convention center. Interviews will be held each day from 9-am to 6-pm.
