KO OLINA (KHNL) - Some of Hawaii's top celebrity performers gave mothers across the islands, star treatment on Sunday.

Among those on the red carpet at the 2009 Mother's Day Brunch with the Stars in Ko Olina were some extraordinary moms voted the best at one of the toughest jobs in the world.

There were plenty of laughs and lots of music from Hawaii's a-list of performers, including Da Braddahs, John Cruz, Camile Velasco, Henry Kapono, and Yvonne Elliman.

The stage was theirs, but the spotlight was on a select-group of mothers named Top Mom for their success at one of the toughest jobs in the world.

"I thought when they were younger, it was harder but, I think when they get older it gets harder, more worries," said Joy Mauricio of Ewa Beach.

Mauricio is one of the 2009 Moms of the Year. She won after her husband submitted this endearing poem.

"This is who you are to all of us. She's a doctor, a dentist, a seamstress, a chef, a taxi cab driver and sometimes a ref...a shoulder to cry on, a strong hand to hold, our children's best friend even when they grow old, an incredible mother who's second to none, because she's all of these people rolled into one," said Mauricio.

And those who know that best, are the Mauricio's kids.

"She's always there for us and she never lets us down," said the Mauricio's son, Landon.

"My mom is caring and she always wants me to be safe and stay strong," said the Mauricio's daughter, Elise.

While the winning moms enjoyed getting pampered with food and entertainment, they say their true reward lies with their children.

"I have two that graduated, going to college. In that, I find success for myself, being a mom, just seeing them grow," said Brandy Kaleoaloha of Aiea, a 2009 Mom of the Year.

"It's important to recognize what mom's do because a lot of times it goes unnoticed, a lot of people take it for granted, that she'll always be there, and this is the one day you could put aside one day out of the year, to really recognize her," said Mauricio.
