HONOLULU (KHNL) - After just a half day of deliberations, an Oahu jury on Wednesday convicted a young man in the beating death of another man in Waikiki.

Jurors, however, found murder defendant Kelii Acasia guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

It all started when his friend, Ben Pada, tried to steal a purse from a woman, but the woman's boyfriend chased him down. Prosecutors say Acasia brutally attacked Ned Nakoa when the 58-year-old intervened.

Acasia was already on probation for a sex assault.

His manslaughter sentencing is set for July 13th.
