KAIMUKI (KHNL) -  A manager of a pet store thanks KHNL and K5 for our role in the case of a stolen 10-week-old female puppy.

A little Dachshund/Terrier mix was taken Thursday night at around 7:45 pm when the store was still open.

A teenager stole the dog when an employee turned away briefly to grab some paperwork.  After our story aired Friday night, the puppy was returned.

"I just wanted to say actually to you, Leland, thank you for being so compassionate towards us and coming immediately when we asked to help in finding the puppy," said Danielle Kaneshiro, a manager at Pet's Discount at Market City in Kaimuki. "Broadcasting is such a wonderful medium, for us that really, truly brought the puppy back."

Kaneshiro says luck was on their side.

"I'm just grateful for KHNL for broadcasting and bringing our puppy back in such a fast manner," she said. "I mean it was broadcasted at six o'clock.  He saw it on the six o'clock news and it was back within a matter of hours.  We're just relieved knowing that our puppy is back thanks to KHNL and the father being so concerned with what may happen to his daughter."

Kaneshiro says the puppy was given as a birthday present to an unsuspecting girl.  Her parents didn't want to have a stolen dog and dropped off the puppy to Pet's discount after seeing our story.  The chocolate Dachshund/Terrier mix and two of her siblings are still for sale.
