HONOLULU (KHNL)  - An Easter Sunday morning turns into a bloody crime scene at a Punchbowl apartment complex as a shooting leaves a woman dead and a man in custody for her murder. Police responded to the home at at 730 Captain Cook Avenue just before 11:00 Sunday morning.

That's where responding officers found a woman lying in a first floor apartment with two gunshots to the stomach. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she later died.

The suspect in the case, 70-year-old Melvin Yoshida, was arrested at the scene and is now facing murder charges.

"Normal procedures would follow that once a scene has made safe, any evidence that may be in the area will be left as-is so it can be documented. Officers did see a weapon that could be the murder weapon but that weapon will be recovered at a later time" said Major Frank Fujii of HPD.

It is not known if Yoshida and the victim knew each other. Apartment neighbors identify the victim as Claire Silva, the building's president.

"This case is a homicide and we don't believe there's another suspect around and we also don't believe that there's any reason anybody in our community to be worried about anything else at this time" said Fujii.
