KANEOHE (KHNL) - A man in his thirties died late Sunday night when the 1998 Toyota pick-up truck he was driving smashed into a utilility building at the entrance of the Wilson Tunnel. The driver was headed Kaneohe-bound on Likelike highway when he lost control and collided with the structure.

The accident happened at the same place where three people were killed in another late night accident on February 26.

"Sunday night around 10:00 PM, Kalihi units got a report of a hazardous vehicle speeding up the Likelike and the responding officer came upon the truck that you see behind me crashed against the left side of the tunnel entrance" said Lt. Darren Izumo of the Honolulu Police Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the truck, and no other vehicles were involved. Police say speed was a factor, but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The man was not wearing a seatbelt.

The highway was closed for several hours Sunday night and Monday morning as police investigated.
