MAILI (KHNL) - Residents in Maili were evacuated for a few hours late Thursday night after a report of an explosion on Helemua Street.
Honolulu Police say a neighbor heard an explosion in the house next door at about noon but didn't find anything. When the neighbor returned later that evening, he found a male victim lying on the ground.
The police bomb squad and the Honolulu Fire Department's Hazmat Unit were both called to the scene.
Streets in and around Helemua were closed off as a precaution.
Police eventually made entry into the house and found a 46-year old man dead.
Nearby residents were allowed back into their homes a few hours later.
