HONOLULU (KHNL) - An Oahu man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend this week may face the state's most serious charge of first-degree murder because the victim was supposed to be a witness at a trial.

Officers arrested Toi Nofoa, 31, in Waimanalo Tuesday night, about seven hours after he allegedly shot and killed his ex, who had a protective order against him.

The victim, Royal Kaukani, 25, accused Nofoa of kidnapping and threatening her last September. He failed to appear for a trial call March 5th, and police say they were looking for him.

Nofoa remains in custody awaiting charges.
