HONOLULU (KHNL) - A driver accused of a deadly pedestrian crash in Maili last year pleaded not guilty Monday.

Salvador Paragas III is charged with second-degree negligent homicide.

The crash happened on Farrington Highway near Maipalaoa Road on July 14, 2008. Investigators say the 25-year-old was speeding when his car plowed into Michael Jones, who was in a marked crosswalk.

The 54-year-old victim's left leg was severed. He later died.

Paragas is free on bail. His trial is tentatively set for May.
