Court: State violates constitution with Superferry law

HONOLULU (KHNL) - The Hawaii Supreme Court has ruled that a state law that allows the Hawaii Superferry to operate in Hawaiian waters without a complete environmental impact statement (EIS) is unconstitutional.

The law was passed in November of 2007. It allowed the Hawaii Superferry to resume operations between Oahu and Maui in December 2007 as an EIS was conducted.

It is unclear at this time what impact this ruling will have have on the daily operations of the Superferry.
