HONOLULU (KHNL) - A young man convicted of stabbing his stepfather to death and setting their Ewa Beach house on fire was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

Under a plea agreement, prosecutors will ask for a 20-year prison term when Timothy Adarna's case goes before the Hawaii parole board.

In November 2006, firefighters put out the flames at a Kilipoe Street home and discovered the badly-burned body of Bob Ramos in the master bedroom. The 55-year-old had multiple stab wounds.

The defense maintains Adarna was acting under extreme emotional distress.
