KAHALA (KHNL) - Have you ever hesitated going on a business trip or taking a vacation because you couldn't part with your pet?

Many people view their pets as children, members of the family. So why not hire a nanny to keep your favorite furry friend happy while you're away.

Tammy Kubo created Hawaii Pet Nanny in 2005. After working many years in the corporate world, she wanted to do something different, a personal passion of hers is caring for animals.

"I love my pets, they are all so good to me," said Kubo.  "We've taken care of everything from a bucket of worms that was a school project, most of our clientele are dogs and cats, of course."

Everything a nanny does for a child, these nannies do for pets.

"Pets are a lot happier in their own environment."

Several of the animals Kubo cares for have special needs.

Kai has hip dysplacia.  So instead of long walks, he works out in the pool.

The one hogging the rubber toy is Lucy.

Axel the house cat was a little camera shy. Only Kubo could calm his nerves.

"About three weeks ago we pet sat 200 turtles at temple valley. I thought it was a typo, but she said no, I really have two hundred turtles, so that was an adventure."

This pet owner just returned from a long trip.

"I feel very comfortable when I'm gone, I'm not worried about them and you can enjoy your vacation knowing that they are going to be happy and content and not have kennel fever or anything like that," said pet owner Nani White.

"I think the hardest part of my job is when I have to leave them because these two will sit by the fence and watch me walk to the car and there will be sad doggie faces and I say 'I'll be back.' That's hard to see," said Kubo.

Kubo takes this business seriously. The twenty nannies on staff must clear a background check. The company is insured and bonded. And the customer list is top secret!
